Marilou
has been making chains for over ten years. This is the first class
she has taught in chainmaking. She has taken many classes from many
wonderful instructors at Wildacres and William Holland. This class
will be for the true beginner, but experienced chainmakers are also
welcome
CLASS
DESCRIPTION
This
class of beginning chain will include an orientation to chain making
including type and gauges of wire, how to make your own rings and
the necessary equipment to wind, cut, and polish them. Basic chain
patterns that will be covered are wiggly, byzantine, foxtail, square,
cloverleaf, rope chain, and chainmaille, as time permits. Students
will need a pair of flat needle nose pliers and a pair of bent needle
nose pliers, or just two bent needle nose pliers. The school has
a few kits of tools you can borrow. If you have an Optivisor you
should bring it. Pre-cut jump ring kits for each of the chains being
taught will be available for purchase from the instructor. Lab fee
covers printed material and practice rings. Cost of materials depends
on the cost of silver at the time of the class.
